No birthday shoutouts this week.

Most of us have enough group chats. What we are short on is a table where nobody already knows the punchlines.

On Tuesday, September 1, the Northwest Dinner Club will seat you with five other locals at a restaurant picked for good food and easy conversation. Start with a short matching quiz, choose the dinner budget that works for you, and we handle the group and reservation. The restaurant is revealed the morning of dinner, so there is still a little mystery without the usual planning headache.

Tickets are $15.99. Your meal budget is selected separately, and after dinner every table can meet at a surprise location for an optional second round of conversation. Come solo or bring a plus-one. Newcomers, longtime locals, quiet listeners and natural connectors are all welcome.

This is the part of community building a newsletter cannot do on its own. We can point out what is happening around the neighborhood, but connection takes a chair, a meal and somebody willing to introduce themselves first.

Who would you hope to meet at the table?

🏫 A northwest school still needs a name. CCSD is taking namesake nominations through 5 p.m. August 17 for the 850-student elementary school under construction at Skye Canyon Park Drive and Shaumber Road. The district expects it to open in fall 2027.

✈️ Hilo gets a nonstop Las Vegas flight Thursday. Southwest begins the new route August 6, with flights planned Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays. The first Las Vegas departure is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.

☕ Coffee With Contractors runs 7:30-9 a.m. at the Nevada Contractors Association, 150 N. Durango Drive. The free morning is built for people who work in construction or keep crossing paths with it.

🏊 Family Game Nights runs 4-9 p.m. at Desert Breeze Aquatic Center, 8275 W. Spring Mountain Road. Swim, listen to music and play games; prizes are included. Admission is $2 for ages 3-17, $3 for ages 18-54 and $1 for ages 55+. Bring a suit and towel.

🤝 Chamber Connections PM Mixer runs 5-7 p.m. at Kona Grill in Downtown Summerlin. Admission is $10 for Vegas Chamber members and $20 for nonmembers.

🎒 Fireside Chat & Back-to-School Drive runs 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Red Room at PKWY Tavern near Flamingo and the 215. Meet the Red Rock Rotary crew and bring backpacks, paper, markers, pencils, calculators or USB drives for the supply drive.

🏓 Centennial Hills Beginner Pickleball starts at 6:30 p.m. on the Centennial Hills Park courts, reached from Deer Springs behind the library. Bring a paddle, outdoor ball, plenty of water and a chair. No fee is listed.

🎟️ Charity Bingo for Kiss My Paws Rescue runs 6:30-10 p.m. at The Spot LV, 8410 W. Desert Inn Road. Tickets are $28.52, with proceeds supporting the local animal rescue.

🧘 Fitness on the Lawn: TruFusion Vinyasa Yoga runs 7-8 p.m. on The Lawn at Downtown Summerlin. The class is free and open to all levels; bring a mat, towel and water.

⚾ Tacoma Rainiers at Las Vegas Aviators starts at 7:05 p.m. at Las Vegas Ballpark. The Aviators play as Reyes de Plata for Copa de la Diversión night.

👶 Baby Basics runs 6-8 p.m. in first-floor conference rooms 1 and 2 at Centennial Hills Hospital. The $33.85 class covers feeding, bathing, soothing, sleep, illness signs and car safety; supplies are provided.
