Every adult sports season starts the same way: someone says, “We should play,” and the group chat answers with a dozen thumbs-up emojis. Then registration closes while everyone is still deciding who owns a softball glove.

Fall softball begins Tuesday at Veterans Memorial and Lorenzi parks. Registration is $400 per team, plus $183 for officials. Basketball begins September 23 at Chuck Minker Sports Complex and costs $250 per team, plus $30 per game for officials.

Pickleball is the easier entry if your friends cannot settle on a roster. Individual registration is $50, with matches beginning September 14 at Durango Hills, Bill Briare and Police Memorial parks. The city also runs open-play volleyball, indoor pickleball, table tennis and $10 ladder tournaments.

Winter registration opens November 19, with winter pickleball registration following December 3. All city adult leagues are for ages 18 and up, and in-person registration is available at Centennial Hills and Veterans Memorial community centers.
