Good morning, Las Vegas. The calendar still wants summer, but this midweek already feels like a northwest highlight reel: free Latin rhythms at Sahara West on Tuesday, bats at Red Springs on Wednesday, and a Thursday that starts at MountainView’s farmers market and ends with Cardio & Carbs. Around here, that qualifies as a pretty good argument for fall.
In today’s Northwest Digest:
Latin rhythms at Sahara West
Bats after dark at Red Springs
Red Rock without the all-day trap
Moose is looking for a home
Share this with the neighbor who always asks what’s going on midweek.

A Red Rock Plan That Does Not Eat Your Whole Day

RED ROCK, EASY MODE
Some mornings you want the cliffs without surrendering the whole day to them. Red Rock can do that if you refuse the 13-mile trap.
Start at Red Spring in Calico Basin. The boardwalk loops about six-tenths of a mile with almost no climbing, benches when you would rather look than hike, and red rock close enough to make the early alarm feel justified. Strollers and wheelchairs work here. So does the version of you that slept badly and still wanted the desert.
If the light is good and the coffee is still working, add the Red Rock Overlook for one more stop. Both places sit outside the Scenic Drive, so you skip the entry fee and the timed reservation. The tradeoff is parking. Cool weekends fill those lots fast. Go early or accept a short wait.
Save the scenic drive for a different morning. Once you enter that one-way loop between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. from October through May, the quick outing becomes the long way home. Easy mode is supposed to end before your calves start negotiating.
You can be back in the northwest before the walk starts feeling like a project.
What is your favorite short Red Rock outing?

Northwest Briefing
🚧 Overnight closures are headed for the CC-215 / Summerlin Parkway interchange. Clark County plans overnight work windows Wednesday through Friday, September 24–26. If that interchange is part of your commute, give yourself a little extra buffer and check the county look-ahead before you leave.
🏋️ More outdoor fitness courts are on the way, including Centennial Hills Park and Floyd Lamb. The city just approved eight new courts citywide, which is excellent news if your idea of a good morning includes free pull-ups and a park view.
🏙️ Downtown Summerlin picked up another mixed-use green light: 354 apartments plus retail space near the core. More neighbors, more storefronts, and a little more life around the plaza.
🍎 Gilcrease Orchard’s Fall Harvest season opens Saturday, September 26. Grab tickets and hours before you drive Tenaya with a cooler and a plan. This is one of those northwest traditions that still feels like a field trip.
Adoptable Animal of the Week:
Meet *Moose
*Moose is a fee-waived 9-month-old boy at The Animal Foundation, a medium black-and-brown dog, about 48 pounds, who arrived September 17 as a return. Shelter notes are thin this week, which usually means he needs a quieter home more than he needs another kennel day. If you’ve got room for a young dog with a big name, this is your moment.
Adoption fee is waived. Ask staff about foster if you want to meet him outside the shelter environment first.
