Happy Halloween week, Las Vegas. This is our Halloween special. The holiday lands on a Saturday, the night before the clocks fall back, and the northwest has gone all in: Lamplight Village's porch band is warming up, local lounges are paying real money for costumes and the pumpkin patches close Saturday. Inside you will find the best streets for candy, a night-by-night party guide, spooky gifts close to home and Friday's Nevada Day mammoths. Saturday carries a 50% shower chance, so pack a poncho with the pillowcase.
🎃 Halloween riddle: This weekend I appear out of thin air at 2 a.m., haunt the night for exactly 60 minutes, then vanish so completely that nobody remembers spending me. What am I? The answer is waiting at the very bottom.
In today's Northwest Digest:
Halloween in the Northwest: streets, parties and frights

HALLOWEEN SPECIAL
Halloween in the Northwest: The Streets, the Music and the Frights

Halloween lands on a Saturday this year, the night before the clocks fall back, and the northwest is ready for it. Porches in Centennial Hills have been dressed for weeks, a neighborhood band is warming up behind the gates at Lamplight Village and three local lounges are putting real money on the best costume. Here is the whole weekend in one place: the streets worth walking, the parties worth staying up for and the frights worth the ticket.
Sunset is about 5:45 p.m. Saturday and the busiest trick-or-treat stretch runs roughly 5 to 8 p.m. The National Weather Service gives Saturday a 50% shower chance, with storms more likely after 11 p.m., so start early and tuck a poncho in the candy bag. Check the forecast →
Where to trick-or-treat
Lamplight Village, Centennial Hills. The valley's best-known Halloween neighborhood sits at Farm and Cimarron roads (89131). Nearly every home decorates, residents usually see more than 1,500 trick-or-treaters, and a neighborhood band typically starts around 5 p.m. Park outside the gates, arrive by 4:30 and expect one piece per kid at the busiest houses. Want the displays without the crush? Drive through Thursday or Friday evening. Confidence: high. Lamplight tips →
Iron Mountain Ranch, Village 6. Across from Kitty Ward Elementary, about three miles east of Lamplight, locals send families here for the same decorated-street feel with easier parking. A smart backup for little legs. Confidence: medium, one local guide. Northwest Halloween houses →
Hernandez Creepshow, Centennial Hills. This family-run home haunt at 8040 Candlenut Ave., less than a mile from Lamplight, opens Halloween night with its "Year SE(27)EN" walk-throughs. Free, with scare actors, so it suits older kids. Hours post on Instagram; check before you walk over. Check hours →
Summerlin's original villages. The Trails, The Hills, The Willows, The Vistas and The Paseos earn the nod for wide sidewalks, trail links and decorated cul-de-sacs, with Peccole Ranch close behind. Sun City Summerlin is famously generous but age-qualified, so check visitor rules first. Confidence: medium. Summerlin route ideas →
Centennial Hills, Providence and Tule Springs. Flat streets, dense cul-de-sacs and plenty of participating porches make the wider northwest an easy wander when Lamplight is packed. Confidence: lower, from general family guides rather than street-level reports, so follow the porch lights. Family guide →

Nevada Day Is Close to Home

Carson City gets the parade. Northwest Las Vegas gets mammoths.
Nevada became the 36th state on Oct. 31, 1864, and this year's observed holiday lands Friday. The useful local move is not a long drive north. It is a morning at Ice Age Fossils State Park, where the Nevada Day celebration starts at 9:30 a.m. among the Tule Springs fossil beds. Games and crafts make the history easy for kids to grab onto, and the setting does the rest.
If your group needs more room to roam, Springs Preserve is offering free general admission to Nevada residents with valid ID from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. That opens the gardens, trails and Nevada State Museum without turning the holiday into a lecture.
Pick the fossil park for a close, focused morning. Pick Springs Preserve for the all-day wander. Either one beats letting Nevada Day pass as only a line on the closures calendar.

ADOPTABLE ANIMAL OF THE WEEK
Meet Whitney. She is a 4-year-old, 17-pound striped cat that PALnv describes as a big drama queen with the most tortitude you will ever see. She likes pets on her own schedule and will tell you when enough is enough, so she would do best as the only cat or with a confident one, in an adult-only home. Whitney has been waiting at Rescued Treasures Cat Café on North Rancho Drive since August 2025, longer than most of her roommates. She is spayed, microchipped and vaccinated, and her adoption fee is $150. Book a café session Wednesday through Sunday to say hello. Meet Whitney →
