Good morning, Las Vegas. This weekend does not need much selling. Downtown Summerlin brings back the Parade of Mischief, Chick-fil-A Centennial Hills throws its first fall festival, and the Las Vegas Book Festival fills the Historic Fifth Street School. Pick one anchor, then use the day-by-day list for the rest.

ADOPTABLE ANIMAL OF THE WEEK

Phoebe, a gray and white adoptable dog at The Animal Foundation

Meet Phoebe, a sweet 8-year-old who loves sniffing around the play yard and dipping her paws in the pool to cool off. She's calm and cuddly once she gets to know you, and she's already spayed, so she can go home right away. Her adoption fee is waived, and she comes with a starter kit and free training classes at The Animal Foundation.

In today's Northwest Digest:

  • Parade nights in Downtown Summerlin

  • Books and authors downtown

  • A free northwest fall festival

Early Voting Starts Saturday. Do the Two-Minute Check First.

Mid-century postcard illustration of Clark County voters walking into an accessible neighborhood vote center beneath the Red Rock ridgeline.

Early voting starts Saturday, Oct. 17, which makes this weekend the first chance to finish the general-election errand before Election Day on Nov. 3.

The useful move comes before you leave home. Nevada's online voter service lets you confirm that your registration and address are current. Clark County's election page carries the voting-site and ballot-drop information, and site hours can vary. Check both, then decide which stop fits the rest of your Saturday.

If your plan is to vote by mail, do not let the envelope become desk furniture. The state recommends mailing a completed ballot at least a week before Election Day. An official drop box is the cleaner late option. You can also track the ballot through the state's MyBallot service.

No speech, no partisan scorecard, no heroic sticker selfie required. This is simply the weekend when a two-minute check can prevent a wasted drive later.
